The surprise arrival of Niccolo, a soldier from an enemy country, begins a series of unusual events, most importantly the appearance of Chantal de Saint-Andre and her two daughters, Amelie and Anastasia. Raoul and Cendrillon grow up together as best friends, though each of them holds onto a deep hurt from their troubled first weeks in the world.
